Discontent in Dallas: Mike McCarthy’s Job

Mike McCarthy is entering the final year of his 4-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Without an extension, he has essentially become a ‘lame duck’ head coach, waiting to be fired if the Cowboys fail to meet expectations again.

After the playoff debacle against the Green Bay Packers, many thought that the Cowboys organization would pivot and find another head coach. Nope. They stood firm, and decided to give McCarthy one more year to prove himself.

According to Tyler Dunne, who spoke to a number of Cowboys sources, this is not a popular strategy.

“At least give him a one-year extension. You may not have to give him another five years, but at least extend them out one year and extend out all the coaches one year to give them a level of security.”

Former Cowboys Personnel Person

Without security, it’s hard to get a team to buy in when they know their head coach’s time is ticking.

“So that means you can get a talented team like they’ve had,” this personnel source says, “but they’re going to underachieve when the coaches can’t influence the players the way they need to.”

Now, McCarthy seems fed up.

“[McCarthy’s] doing it the best he can,” the former Cowboys personnel man says. “Some of the people I’ve talked to have said that he’s getting fed up with it a little bit.

Micah Parsons, Embracing the Criticism

Since the Cowboys called his name in 2021, Micah Parsons has been considered one of the best pass rushers in football.

Over 3 seasons, and 50 career games, Parsons has managed to rack up 213 total tackles and 40.5 sacks.

In the regular season, fans are relatively happy with his game to game performances. Criticisms really start with his recent string of playoff performances, recording just 1 sack in 4 career games. When the stakes begin to rise, Parsons play seems to fall. At least that’s what we’ve been told.

Parson’s hasn’t always said the right things. But this time, I think he got it right.

"The criticism is a privilege because sometimes a great standard is not good enough for those who are greater. When people want things, you have to answer the call. It is not a negative thing. It is the most positive thing people can say to me because it pushes me and challenges me to be better.

"It is a great privilege for someone to say, ‘Hey, you are great, but you can be greater."
